Vilamoura is the Algarve's premier planned resort town, centered around a luxury marina lined with restaurants, bars, and yacht berths. Five championship golf courses, a casino, and the broad Praia da Falésia beach define the lifestyle. The town draws a mix of British, Dutch, and Scandinavian expat retirees alongside a growing number of remote-working families.

Almancil is the Algarve's wealthiest municipality, home to the exclusive Golden Triangle area between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo. Manicured estates, private security, and proximity to some of Europe's best golf courses make it a magnet for affluent international families. The area has the Algarve's highest concentration of international schools.

Lagos is the Algarve's most characterful town, with a walled old town, dramatic sea cliffs, and a young international community drawn by surfing and digital nomad culture. Unlike the resort-oriented central Algarve, Lagos has year-round local life with traditional markets, fishermen's taverns, and a lively arts scene.

Tavira is often called the Algarve's most beautiful town, with a Roman bridge, whitewashed churches, and a relaxed pace that feels closer to traditional Portugal than the touristic central coast. The town sits on the eastern Algarve near the Spanish border, with access to the unspoiled beaches of Ilha de Tavira via a short ferry ride.

Loulé is the Algarve's largest inland town and its commercial heart. The Saturday morning market in the Moorish-style market hall is one of southern Portugal's great food experiences. Families choose Loulé for its authentic Portuguese daily life, significantly lower rents than the coast, and central location with easy access to both Faro airport and the beach towns.

Carvoeiro is a former fishing village turned boutique resort, clinging to the cliffs of the western-central Algarve. Unlike larger resort towns, Carvoeiro has kept its village scale — you can walk everywhere, the beach is in the town center, and the clifftop boardwalk trail to Algar Seco is one of the Algarve's most scenic walks. Popular with British and Dutch families.
