A calmer, more residential counterpart to Thonglor. Attracts young expat families and digital nomads who want Sukhumvit proximity without the full premium.
Monthly temperatures, rainfall, and sea conditions
Monthly family budget estimates (USD)
A family in a 2-bedroom condo near Ekkamai BTS, using BTS and Grab, children at a mid-tier bilingual or international school.
A family in a 3-bedroom condo or townhouse on Soi Ekkamai, one car, children at a well-regarded international school.
A large house or luxury penthouse condo, children at a top-tier school, active dining and social lifestyle, full-time helper.
Ekkamai sits in the middle of the Sukhumvit price spectrum — more affordable than Thonglor and Phrom Phong but pricier than Bang Na or Chatuchak. The dining and nightlife scene can inflate lifestyle spending. All figures in USD; 1 THB is approximately 0.028 USD.
Average monthly AQI (US EPA scale)
Yearly average AQI is 71. Best air quality Jan–Dec (best: Jul at 40). Feb–Mar air quality worsens due to heat, humidity, and dust (peak: Feb at 112). Families with children who have asthma or respiratory conditions should plan indoor activities during summer months.
Ekkamai draws a younger, more creative crowd than neighboring Phrom Phong. The mix includes Thai professionals, Japanese expats (spilling over from the Phrom Phong Japanese community), Korean residents, young Western expats, and increasingly, digital nomads. Families here tend to be younger with smaller children, attracted by the dining scene and proximity to international schools on the Sukhumvit corridor.
Ekkamai does not have a major public park within its boundaries, but Benchasiri Park at neighboring Phrom Phong BTS is just one stop away and offers a green retreat with sculpture gardens, a swimming pool, and jogging paths. Khlong Tan district's small community parks provide pockets of green. The real outdoor draw is the Phra Khanong canal area, where evening walks along the water offer a break from the urban bustle.
Ekkamai BTS station on the Sukhumvit Line provides excellent connectivity. Siam is five stops away, Asok (MRT interchange) is three stops, and the line extends in both directions along Bangkok's main commercial spine. Thonglor and Phrom Phong are each one stop away, making the three neighborhoods effectively one extended community connected by rail.
Gateway Ekkamai is the primary mall, with a Japanese-influenced grocery section and food court alongside mainstream retail. Foodland, Bangkok's 24-hour supermarket chain, has a branch on Sukhumvit 63 that is a neighborhood institution — many expats and locals do late-night grocery runs here. For fresh markets, the Khlong Tan morning market operates daily with affordable Thai produce. Several organic food shops and specialty delis have opened along the sois.
The cool season is when Ekkamai's rooftop bars and outdoor dining come alive. Temperatures of 22-32C with low humidity make evening dining on Soi Ekkamai genuinely pleasant. This is also the best time for exploring the neighborhood on foot without being drenched in sweat. Weekend trips to eastern beaches are most popular during these months.
