Ngu Hanh Son district takes its name from the Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son — the Five Element Mountains), which are both its most famous landmark and its spiritual heart. The area stretches along the coast south of My Khe Beach, with the Non Nuoc Beach providing a quieter alternative to the main tourist strip. The traditional stone-carving village at the base of the Marble Mountains maintains centuries-old craftsmanship. The expat community is growing, particularly around the resort hotels and the developing residential areas. Korean investment has been significant, with Korean-run restaurants and businesses visible throughout. The area has a more relaxed, spacious feel than An Thuong, with wider streets and more development space. For families, the combination of beach access, cultural sites, and a less crowded atmosphere is attractive.
The Marble Mountains are the district''s standout recreational attraction — five limestone hills with Buddhist pagodas, caves, hiking trails, and panoramic views. Non Nuoc Beach stretches for several kilometers and is excellent for swimming and surfing. The area has several resort-standard golf courses. Water sports including surfing, kiteboarding, and paddleboarding are popular. The stone-carving village offers cultural tourism and craft workshops. Several luxury resorts allow day-pass access to pools and facilities. Cycling along the coastal road is pleasant. For families, the Marble Mountains offer an educational adventure combining nature, spirituality, and history. The beach is less crowded than My Khe, with more space for children to play.
Ngu Hanh Son''s coastal position means travel is primarily north-south along the beach road or inland toward the highway. Motorbikes and Grab handle daily transport. The airport is 15-20 minutes north. Central Da Nang (Hai Chau) is 15-20 minutes via the coastal road or bridges. Hoi An is 20-30 minutes south, making day trips or evening outings easy. The main road through the district carries significant traffic, especially around the Marble Mountains tourist area. Walking is feasible along the beachfront but the spread-out nature of the district requires motorized transport for most trips. New road development is improving connectivity. The proximity to both Da Nang center and Hoi An is a strategic advantage.
Daily life in Ngu Hanh Son balances beach living with developing urban amenities. Local markets provide fresh Vietnamese produce at local prices. Vinmart and smaller grocery stores handle everyday needs, with larger supermarkets in central Da Nang for specialty items. Dining includes local Vietnamese restaurants, Korean BBQ, and a growing number of international options near the resorts. Healthcare is served by local clinics, with Da Nang''s main hospitals accessible in 15-20 minutes. International schools are a commute away, though new educational facilities are planned. Housing options range from affordable Vietnamese apartments to modern condos and resort villas. Internet is good in developed areas. The area offers good value — beach living at lower prices than An Thuong, with the cultural bonus of the Marble Mountains and proximity to Hoi An.
Ngu Hanh Son shares Da Nang''s tropical monsoon climate but the Marble Mountains create a local microclimate effect, with the hills providing some wind shelter and afternoon shade in certain areas. The beach conditions mirror My Khe — excellent for swimming in the dry season, rougher in the wet. Temperatures average 30-36 degrees C in summer and 20-25 degrees C in winter. The wet season (September-February) brings heavy rain and occasional typhoons. The coastal position ensures good air quality and sea breezes. The less built-up character compared to An Thuong means better air circulation and less urban heat. UV exposure remains intense year-round.
