Neuilly-sur-Seine is the wealthiest commune in France by median income and one of the most prestigious addresses in the entire Paris region. Its residents represent the apex of the French and international upper class — senior executives of the CAC 40, major political figures (Nicolas Sarkozy is a native son), prominent lawyers, media personalities, and wealthy international families who choose Neuilly for its combination of prestige, safety, quality of life, and proximity to Paris and La Défense. The commune has a manicured, aristocratic quality that is genuinely different from any Paris arrondissement.
Neuilly-sur-Seine borders the Bois de Boulogne to the south, giving residents direct access to 2,100 acres of forest, lakes, cycling paths, horse-riding, rowing, and the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The Porte Maillot and Porte des Sablons entrances to the Bois are within easy walking and cycling distance from central Neuilly. The Jardin d'Acclimatation amusement park — ideal for families with young children — is accessible via the Bois.
Neuilly is served by metro line 1 — the most important line in the Paris network, running from La Défense through the Champs-Élysées, Châtelet, and on to Château de Vincennes. From Neuilly (Les Sablons, Pont de Neuilly stations), central Paris landmarks are easily reached: Charles de Gaulle-Étoile in 5 minutes, the Louvre in 15 minutes. This direct line 1 access makes Neuilly one of the best-connected western Paris suburbs for both work and leisure.
Neuilly's main commercial street, the Rue de Longchamp and Avenue Charles de Gaulle, offers an excellent mix of high-end independent boutiques, luxury food shops, pharmacies, and service businesses. The market on Place du Marché (Tuesday, Friday, Sunday) is regarded as one of the best suburban markets in the Paris region — exceptionally high quality produce, cheese, and charcuterie at a premium but justified price. Several luxury food retailers, including a Maison Fauchon franchise, operate in the commune.
Neuilly-sur-Seine's adjacency to the Bois de Boulogne gives it a meaningful climatic advantage over the dense inner arrondissements. The Bois acts as a vast green lung, generating cooler, cleaner air that flows across Neuilly on prevailing westerly winds. During the summer heatwaves that have become increasingly common in the Paris region, Neuilly residents experience noticeably lower temperatures than those in the Marais or Bastille areas. This is a genuine, measurable quality-of-life benefit.
