Residents tend to be established professionals who prioritise space, nature, and excellent schooling over nightlife and urban buzz.
Kilchbergs western boundary is the shore of Lake Zurich, with a public bathing area (Seebad Kilchberg) that offers swimming, sunbathing, and a kiosk during summer. The lakeside promenade connects south to Rüschlikon and north toward Wollishofen, providing a continuous walking and cycling path. The Alte Landstrasse runs through vineyards on the hillside above the village, offering panoramic views of the lake and Alps.
Kilchberg station on the S-Bahn S8 line provides direct service to Zurich Hauptbahnhof in just 12 minutes, with trains running every 20 minutes during peak hours. Bus line 161 connects the hillside residential areas to the station and continues to Adliswil. The ZVV zone system means a single monthly pass covers the entire Zurich metropolitan area, making multi-modal commuting seamless.
The village centre along Alte Landstrasse has a Volg convenience store, a bakery, a butcher, and a pharmacy. A larger Coop supermarket is located near the station area. For a full international grocery run, the Sihlcity shopping centre in neighbouring Adliswil offers Coop, Migros, and specialty retailers — all within a 5-minute drive. The Lindt factory shop sells chocolate at discounted prices and is a guilty pleasure for residents.
Kilchberg enjoys warm summers typical of the Lake Zurich basin, with temperatures reaching 24-27C.
