Processing takes 6–12 weeks and permits are valid for one year.
Spouses and dependent children of work permit or residence permit holders may apply for family dependents residence authorization through SMEA. Dependents wishing to work must obtain their own separate work authorization.
Angola applies income tax (IRT) progressively from 0% to 25% on individual income. Corporate tax (IRC) is 25%. VAT is 14%. Angola has a growing network of double-tax treaties, including agreements with Portugal, UAE, China, and South Africa.
Luanda has private hospital facilities such as Clnica Sagrada Esperanca and Hospital Josina Machel for expatriates. Outside Luanda, healthcare facilities are limited. Comprehensive international health insurance with medical evacuation coverage to South Africa is strongly recommended.
Expats with valid permits can open accounts at Banco Atlantico, Banco BIC, or Standard Bank Angola. Requirements include passport, DIRE or residency permit, and proof of income. USD accounts are commonly available in Luanda given strong oil sector ties.
Angola's AIPEX (Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency) promotes foreign direct investment with tax incentives in special economic zones and priority sectors including oil and gas, agriculture, and infrastructure. Investors committing above USD 1 million can qualify for an investor residency permit. Angola does not have a direct citizenship by investment program.
