Yes. The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) department works with English Language Learners (ELLs) and caters to lower intermediate level through to advanced level learners of English. The aim of the EAP department is to support students for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL) as they adjust to the linguistic and cognitive expectations of the mainstream classroom. Specialist teachers employ EAL strategies, scaffolding and modifications, so that students can learn in, and through, English while still learning English. By linguistically unpacking some mainstream lessons we aim to ensure that the success of the student is not solely correlated to their linguistic ability, but also to their understanding of content. EAP students will develop the language skills, learning strategies and cultural awareness needed to be successful.
