Entrance assessments for pupils in the 5s and above are conducted sensitively to understand each child’s academic ability, potential, and character. Individual or small-group assessments take place throughout the year on application.

Yes. There are waiting lists for most year levels, and families are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

In the Pre-Prep, class sizes are deliberately small, typically capped between 12 and 15 depending on age. In the Prep School, classes are generally limited to 20 pupils, ensuring every child is known and supported.

Pre-Prep classes usually have 12–15 pupils, while Prep classes average 16–18, maintaining the close attention and individual guidance expected of a British independent school.

Yes. Our Pre-Prep operates with generous staffing and an adult-to-pupil ratio of roughly 1:5, while the Prep School maintains small class sizes and subject specialists, achieving a teacher-to-pupil ratio of around 1:8 or 1:9.

Pupils can choose from a wide variety of activities, including coding, debating, art and design, music, swimming, football, badminton, dance, and climbing, as well as clubs in science, enterprise, cooking, and cultural exploration. Each club is designed to nurture curiosity, confidence, and creativity, helping every child to discover their passions and develop skills for life. Whether performing, inventing, or exploring, ISJ pupils learn to take initiative, collaborate, and shine in all they do.

Sport and physical activity are an integral part of life at ISJ. Through a diverse and dynamic programme, every child is encouraged to discover the joy of movement, develop teamwork, and build confidence. Our curriculum includes gymnastics, cricket, basketball, volleyball, fencing, netball, football, hockey, rounders, tennis, swimming, and badminton — among many others. From learning new skills in PE lessons to representing the school in fixtures and tournaments, pupils are supported to challenge themselves, persevere, and take pride in their achievements. We believe that sport should inspire lifelong wellbeing and a spirit of fair play, helping our pupils to grow in resilience, leadership, and enthusiasm.

ISJ provides a rich and stimulating learning environment. Specialist facilities include dedicated science, art, music, and language labs, as well as a well-resourced library that inspires curiosity and independent learning. For sports, we offer outstanding facilities that encourage participation, teamwork, and a lifelong love of sport. Our pupils enjoy a modern swimming pool, a synthetic football pitch, and a multi-sport gym for a variety of indoor activities. In addition, a bouldering wall provides opportunities for challenge and adventure, while spacious, age-appropriate play areas ensure that all children can develop their physical confidence in a safe and engaging environment.

Yes. All core subjects are taught in English by experienced native-speaking teachers, many of whom have trained and taught in leading British independent schools.

Yes. ISJ provides tailored English language support for pupils who are new to English, helping them build confidence and fluency while fully engaging in school life.

ISJ pupils study Bahasa Indonesia from Nursery (the 2s) and Mandarin from Year 3. In addition, Japanese and Korean are offered as optional language clubs and enrichment opportunities, reflecting the school’s international community and emphasis on global understanding.

ISJ is able to support a limited number of pupils with mild learning needs, depending on individual circumstances. Admissions are considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure we can provide the right level of support. While we make every effort to be inclusive, we may not be able to accommodate children requiring more specialist provision.
