Average monthly AQI (US EPA scale)
Yearly average AQI is 105. Best air quality May–Oct (best: Jul at 62). Jan–Dec air quality worsens due to heat, humidity, and dust (peak: Dec at 163). Families with children who have asthma or respiratory conditions should plan indoor activities during summer months.
The Chaoyang Park neighbourhood attracts a mix of established long-term Beijing expats, affluent Chinese families, and a substantial Korean community centred around the Wangjing/Chaoyang Park axis. The park itself — a 300-hectare pleasure ground with an artificial lake, amusement rides for children, a beach volleyball arena, and Beijing's largest outdoor concert venue — defines the neighbourhood's identity. Residents here tend to have chosen this area deliberately for the green space and the balance between urban access and residential tranquillity.
Chaoyang Park is the neighbourhood's defining asset and one of the best urban parks in mainland China. The artificial lake hosts pedal boats and row boats in warmer months. The park's beach volleyball complex has hosted international tournaments. A large children's amusement area with rides, a water park (summer only), and climbing structures is within the park. The park's north entrance connects directly to the Workers' Stadium district.
The Chaoyang Park area is served by Metro Line 6 (Jingtai, Qingnian Lu stations) and Line 14, providing direct access to the CBD, Guomao, and east Beijing. The journey to Guomao Financial District takes about 25 minutes on Line 6. The Liangmaqiao area (Sanlitun proper) is 2-3 metro stops north. Airport Express connections are available via Line 6 transfer to Line 10 at Jintaixizhao, then to Dongzhimen.
The Chaoyang Park area has strong everyday infrastructure. New Yansha Mall, Solana Lifestyle Shopping Park (adjacent to the park's north gate), and the Kerry Centre Mall provide retail, dining, and grocery options. BHG Market Place (a high-end Chinese supermarket with good imported sections) and the ever-present Carrefour cover the weekly shop. Korean-owned supermarkets along the park's eastern side offer an impressive Asian grocery selection.
Chaoyang Park's large water body (the artificial lake) and extensive tree cover create a marginally cooler microclimate than the surrounding built-up urban areas in summer — residents report the park breezes can take the edge off August heat. Winter is the same challenging Beijing pattern — cold, dry, and polluted — but the park's open space does allow wind to clear the air more readily after pollution episodes.
