District II (Buda Hills) has long been Budapest's address of choice for diplomats, senior executives, and wealthy Hungarian families. The area around Rózsadomb (Rose Hill) features grand villas with sweeping views of the Danube and Parliament. Over the past two decades, it has attracted a significant international community, particularly families posted to Budapest for corporate or diplomatic assignments. Hungarian families here tend to be multi-generational residents who value the district's quiet, leafy character.
District II is one of Budapest's greenest districts, with the Buda Hills providing an extraordinary natural backdrop for family life. Normafa, at the top of the hills, is a beloved recreation area with hiking trails, a toboggan run, and cross-country skiing in winter. Hűvösvölgy (Cool Valley) offers shaded walking paths along a stream. Within the more urban parts of the district, Millenáris Park is a modern, well-maintained green space with playgrounds, a pond, and open-air stages.
District II is well-served by the HÉV suburban railway (Szentendre line) and numerous bus routes connecting to central Pest. Tram 4/6, one of Europe's busiest tram lines, runs along the district's eastern boundary. The M2 Metro line is accessible at Széll Kálmán tér, the district's main transport hub, providing quick access to the Pest side. Bus routes penetrate deep into the hills, though frequency decreases at higher elevations.
Mammut Shopping Centre at Széll Kálmán tér is the district's commercial anchor, with a Tesco hypermarket, fashion retailers, a cinema, and food court. The Fény utca market hall, adjacent to Mammut, is one of Budapest's best fresh markets with Hungarian produce, meats, and dairy. Smaller grocery stores (Spar, CBA, Lidl) are distributed throughout the district. Rózsadomb has several boutique food shops and an organic market scene.
Budapest has a continental climate with four distinct seasons. Summers (June-August) are warm to hot, averaging 25-30°C, with occasional heat waves pushing above 35°C. Winters (December-February) are cold, with temperatures frequently dropping below 0°C and occasional snow. The Buda Hills receive slightly more precipitation and can be 2-3°C cooler than the Pest flatlands in summer, which is actually an advantage during heat waves.
No schools currently listed in District II (Buda Hills).
