A leafy residential district east of the centre, home to the Stadio Artemio Franchi and some of Florence's best parks. Campo di Marte is a favourite with families seeking more space, green areas, and a quieter pace while remaining well-connected by tram and bus.

Campo di Marte is one of Florence most genuinely residential districts. The population is predominantly Italian families — young parents with children, retirees who have lived here for decades, and professionals who work in the city centre but prefer the calmer pace of the eastern suburbs. The small expat community tends to be long-term residents rather than transient students. The neighbourhood surrounding the stadium has a strong working-class and lower-middle-class heritage.
Campo di Marte is the greenest residential area in central Florence. The Giardino dell Orticoltura features a stunning 19th-century greenhouse and hosts plant fairs and community events. The Parco delle Cascine is accessible by a short ride west. Playing fields around the stadium provide open space for football, running, and pick-up games. The Anconella Park along the Arno is popular for dog walking and weekend picnics.
The area is well served by ATAF buses running into the centre along Viale dei Mille and Via Gioberti. The Campo di Marte train station provides regional rail connections including direct trains to Pisa, Arezzo, and Siena. Bus line 20 connects the stadium area to Santa Maria Novella station. The planned extension of the tram network will further improve connections. A monthly ATAF pass costs about EUR 35.
A large Esselunga supermarket on Via Masaccio handles weekly shops. The weekly street market (mercato rionale) on Tuesday mornings near Piazza Beccaria sells fresh produce, clothing, and household goods at local prices. Small bakeries, butchers, and fruit shops line the residential streets. The Mercato di Sant Ambrogio is technically at the western edge of the district and is excellent for daily fresh shopping.
Campo di Marte shares the Florence valley heat, with peaks of 34-38C. The slightly more open layout and tree-lined viales provide marginally better air circulation than the dense centro. Parks offer shade that the stone streets of the old town lack. Many apartment buildings here have more modern construction with better insulation and more common air conditioning units.
