Bad Homburg

Bad Homburg is an elegant spa town in the Taunus hills north of Frankfurt, long favored by affluent families and finance-sector expats seeking space and greenery. The town has a refined, conservative character shaped by its royal spa heritage — the Kaiser Wilhelm II summered here. Today it is a hub for the Frankfurt financial community, with many banking and asset management professionals raising families here.

Bad Homburg is surrounded by the Taunus Nature Park, offering extensive hiking and mountain biking trails directly from the town. The Kurpark (spa park) at the heart of town is a beautiful formal garden with walking paths, a casino, and seasonal events.

Bad Homburg is excellently connected to Frankfurt via the U2 U-Bahn (subway/light rail), reaching Frankfurt city center in about 30 minutes. The A5 and A661 motorways provide fast car access. Cycling within town is easy, though the Taunus hills make longer bike commutes to Frankfurt challenging.

Bad Homburg has a well-stocked pedestrian shopping zone, a weekly farmers market, and proximity to the large Taunus Zentrum shopping mall. Several excellent international schools (including Frankfurt International School in nearby Oberursel) are a major draw for expat families.

Bad Homburg is slightly cooler than Frankfurt itself due to its Taunus foothill location, averaging 5-10 degrees C in winter and 20-26 degrees C in summer. Snowfall is more likely here than in central Frankfurt, and spring and autumn are particularly beautiful with forest colours.
