Westend is Frankfurt's most sought-after residential district, with grand Wilhelminian-era villas, the sprawling Palmengarten botanical garden, and quiet streets lined with mature plane trees. International banking families and senior executives dominate the demographic, and the neighborhood has the city's highest concentration of international schools within walking distance.

Westend is Frankfurt's premier expat neighborhood, home to banking executives, fund managers, and senior corporate leaders from the financial district a short walk east. The neighborhood has one of the highest proportions of foreign residents in Germany — on some streets, English is heard as frequently as German. Japanese, Indian, British, and American communities are particularly well-established, with their own schools, shops, and social networks.
The Palmengarten is Westend's crown jewel — a 22-hectare botanical garden with tropical greenhouses, rose gardens, concert lawns, and seasonal flower shows. Adjacent Grüneburgpark is a large public park with open lawns, a Korean garden, and excellent playgrounds. Together, these green spaces give Westend families direct access to more curated nature than almost any urban neighborhood in Europe.
Westend has outstanding public transit. U-Bahn stations (Westend, Holzhausenstrasse, Grüneburgweg) provide direct access to the city center, Hauptbahnhof, and the airport. The S-Bahn connects to the wider Rhine-Main region. Trams run along the main streets. Frankfurt Airport is 20 minutes by S-Bahn. A monthly RMV transit pass costs approximately 120 EUR.
Grüneburgweg is the main shopping street, with organic supermarkets (Alnatura, Bio Company), bakeries, wine merchants, and specialty food shops. A REWE supermarket handles everyday groceries. Kleinmarkthalle, Frankfurt's beloved indoor market, is a 15-minute walk east for fresh produce, cheeses, and international ingredients. For luxury shopping, the Goethestrasse boutiques are nearby.
Frankfurt sits in the Rhine-Main lowlands, one of Germany's warmest regions. Summers are warm and occasionally hot (30-35C), while winters are milder than Munich or Berlin, with temperatures rarely dropping below -5C. Westend's tree canopy provides welcome shade in summer, and the proximity of the Palmengarten and Grüneburgpark moderates the urban heat island effect.
