Despite its exclusivity, Cologny has a surprisingly warm village character centred around its small commercial square.

Cologny is one of Switzerland's wealthiest communes, home to business leaders, senior diplomats, and international organisation executives. The resident mix includes long-established Swiss families with deep Geneva roots alongside a significant population of international high-net-worth families, particularly from the UK, France, the Middle East, and the Americas. Many World Economic Forum connections and private banking families have traditionally chosen Cologny for its discretion and prestige.
Cologny's lakefront is one of the most beautiful stretches on Lac Leman, with private jetties, manicured gardens, and the Parc des Eaux-Vives (a public park and restaurant on the border with Eaux-Vives) offering stunning views across the water to Mont Blanc. The Fondation Martin Bodmer, a UNESCO-listed library and museum, is set in its own parkland and hosts cultural events. Several smaller parks and green corridors thread through the residential areas, maintaining the leafy, garden-suburb character.
Cologny is connected to central Geneva by TPG bus routes, with the A bus running along the Route de la Capite to Rive (about 15-20 minutes). Service is reliable but less frequent than the tram-served quarters. The Leman Express stations are not within walking distance, so bus or car is necessary for rail connections.
Cologny's village centre has a small Coop, a bakery, a pharmacy, and a few boutiques — sufficient for daily essentials but limited in range. Most families drive to the Migros or Manor stores in Eaux-Vives or the Balexert shopping centre for larger shops. The Cologny Saturday farmers' market offers excellent local cheese, bread, and seasonal produce. Online grocery delivery is popular given the commune's inconvenient position for walk-in shopping.
Summers in Cologny are warm and idyllic, with temperatures reaching 25-27C and the lake providing a natural cooling effect. The southeast-facing aspect means long afternoon sunshine with views across the water catching the light. Evenings on lakefront terraces are one of Cologny's great pleasures. Thunderstorms can roll across the lake dramatically but pass quickly. The Bise wind occasionally makes early summer days feel cool.
