Average monthly AQI (US EPA scale)
Yearly average AQI is 75. Best air quality Jan–Dec (best: Aug at 48). Feb–Mar air quality worsens due to heat, humidity, and dust (peak: Mar at 110). Families with children who have asthma or respiratory conditions should plan indoor activities during summer months.
Ikoyi is home to Nigeria's political and business elite alongside a significant expatriate community. Diplomats, oil and gas executives, and senior professionals from multinational corporations occupy the tree-lined streets of Old Ikoyi and the modern high-rises of New Ikoyi. The neighborhood has the highest concentration of embassies in West Africa.
Ikoyi benefits from some of Lagos's rare green corridors. The grounds around the Ikoyi Club offer manicured lawns, tennis courts, a golf course, and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Along the lagoon, waterfront walking paths provide a reprieve from the city's intensity, though dedicated public parks are limited compared to other world cities.
Ikoyi sits on Lagos Island, connected to the mainland via Third Mainland Bridge and to Victoria Island via Falomo Bridge and the new Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge. Morning and evening rush hours bring heavy congestion, particularly around Falomo Roundabout and the bridges. Most commutes within the Island (Ikoyi to VI or Lekki) take 15-30 minutes outside peak hours, but can triple during traffic.
Ikoyi is well-served by upscale grocery stores including Hubmart, Prince Ebeano, and Shoprite (Falomo). These stock imported goods — European cheeses, organic produce, and international brands — at premium prices. The Falomo Shopping Centre and various plazas along Alfred Rewane Road offer banks, pharmacies, and everyday services.
The dry season is the most comfortable time in Ikoyi. Temperatures hover around 30-33C during the day with lower humidity. The Harmattan wind from the Sahara can bring hazy, dusty conditions in December and January, occasionally affecting air quality and visibility. Evenings are pleasant, making outdoor dining and socializing enjoyable.
