Average monthly AQI (US EPA scale)
Yearly average AQI is 75. Best air quality Jan–Dec (best: Aug at 48). Feb–Mar air quality worsens due to heat, humidity, and dust (peak: Mar at 110). Families with children who have asthma or respiratory conditions should plan indoor activities during summer months.
Victoria Island attracts a mix of Nigerian business professionals, expat executives, and a younger international crowd drawn to its restaurants and nightlife. The working population swells during business hours as VI is home to banks, consulting firms, and tech companies. The residential community is smaller but energetic, concentrated in apartment blocks behind the commercial strips.
Elegushi Beach is VI's primary recreational beach, offering a mix of beach clubs, live music on weekends, and food vendors. It's a popular family spot during the day and an entertainment hub in the evenings. Tarkwa Bay, accessible by boat, offers a quieter beach experience for families seeking escape from the city.
VI is connected to Ikoyi via Falomo Bridge and to Lekki via the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue. The Eko Bridge connects to Lagos Island and the mainland. Traffic is notoriously heavy during business hours, with gridlock common on Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku Street between 8-10 AM and 4-7 PM.
The Palms Shopping Mall in Lekki is a short drive away and houses Shoprite, a cinema, and international retail brands. Closer to home, Ebeano Supermarket, Hubmart, and various corner shops serve daily needs. For imported goods, Prince Ebeano on Admiralty Way (Lekki Phase 1) is a popular destination.
The dry season brings comfortable conditions with temperatures of 28-33C and lower humidity. The Harmattan occasionally reduces visibility with Saharan dust, but VI's coastal position moderates the effect. This is the peak social season with outdoor events, beach parties, and al fresco dining at its best.
