Laguna and Bang Tao are Phukets most established luxury residential zones, occupying a stunning stretch of northwest coast anchored by the Laguna Phuket resort complex — an integrated development encompassing five five-star hotels, a golf course, and a private lake system. The wider Bang Tao area has grown into the islands premier family expat enclave, with the British International School of Phuket serving as the social hub of the community. Long-term residents are predominantly British, Australian, and Scandinavian families drawn by BIS, the beach lifestyle, and the cluster of upscale amenities. The Boat Lagoon marine district lies to the south. PORTO de Phuket is the areas upscale retail destination. The community is cosmopolitan, professional, and family-oriented.
The outdoor lifestyle here is exceptional. Bang Tao Beach stretches nearly 8 km — one of Phukets longest — and remains relatively uncrowded despite the upscale hotels. Lagunas trail network around its lakes is popular with joggers and cyclists. Laguna Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course integrated into the resort complex. Bangtao Beach is lined with quality beach clubs including Catch Beach Club and Xana Beach Club. Kitesurfing conditions at the beach are among the best in Thailand during the monsoon months, drawing a dedicated kiteboarding community.
The Laguna/Bang Tao area is reasonably self-contained but a vehicle is still needed. The internal Laguna bus connects the resort hotels and is free for guests. For residents, cars and motorbikes are standard. Grab is reliable. Phuket Airport is only 15 minutes north — a key attraction for international families. The drive south to Patong takes 20 minutes, and Phuket Town is 30 minutes. PORTO de Phuket and the Blue Tree water park provide local activity without requiring a long drive.
Daily life in Laguna/Bang Tao is comfortable and cosmopolitan. Villa Market, Gourmet Market, and Rimping supermarkets cater to international food preferences at premium prices. PORTO de Phuket hosts a range of restaurants, a cinema, and lifestyle retail. The beach road has excellent restaurant options. BIS is the school of choice for the majority of expat families. Bangkok Hospital Phuket is 20 minutes south. The community is tight-knit enough that parents meet regularly through school and sports, giving the area a suburban-expat feel unique on the island.
Bang Tao faces west on the Andaman Sea coast. From November through April it offers perfect beach weather — clear skies, gentle surf, and evening breezes. The kitesurfing community values the consistent winds of January and February. The southwest monsoon arrives in May and the beach sees large swells and red flags from June to October. Most expat families travel or return to their home countries during the wettest months, though daily life on land is entirely functional year-round.
