For ESL children CIS provides extra support in English lessons five times a week. It also takes children out of foundation subject lessons twice a week for small group sessions and offers one after school session a week.
There are different levels of ESL groups; some of the children are only just starting to learn English, in most cases this means that children have an intensive phonics focus in their ESL sessions, using the Jolly Phonics programme. For other children their knowledge of English is more advanced and they focus on extending their vocabulary and using grammar correctly.
